Testimonials

Ian and June Dugan

“Alan Simcox of Nick Joyce Architects has completed a couple of projects on our 19th century barn conversion and outbuildings involving design, planning approval and project management, contractor selection and all stage through to completion. We found Alan very easy to work with and have been very satisfied with the quality of the service provided, both in terms of attention to detail and ensuring consistent good quality work and overall management to agreed budgets. Moreover it is the intangible advice and expertise provided by Alan and the firm in converting your semi developed ideas into a practical reality sympathetic to the existing building structure that we found most helpful, we therefore have no hesitation in recommending Alan Simcox and Nick Joyce Architects for any similar work.”

Alison Martin, St James’ Welland PCC

“We worked with Nick Joyce Architects on the redevelopment of St James Church in Welland from 2010 to 2012. From the outset Nick and our designated architect, Andrea Burton grasped our vision for the church and came up with an excellent design which was practical, sympathetic to the existing building but at the same time enhanced it. They were easy to work with and always prepared to listen, taking on our concerns and ideas where appropriate and offering guidance at all stages. The project was expertly managed from the planning, preparing our proposal for DAC approval and selecting our builder through weekly site visits ensuring things were done properly and within budget to fine detail of decoration. We are delighted with the result: the building looks wonderful and works exactly as we wanted it. The reaction of anyone coming into the church is “wow!” Even from those who were initially very uncertain about the changes we were making. We would confidently recommend Nick Joyce Architects Ltd to anyone considering a similar project.”

Carl Cooper, Cobweb Cottage

“To enjoy a good meal, you must first choose a great restaurant..!! The same theory can be applied to a build project. For a build project to be successful, you must first choose a great architect. We consider ourselves to have been extremely fortunate. Nick Joyce Architects, and in particular Alan Simcox, have proven to be nothing short of fantastic. From the outset of our first meeting, Alan demonstrated an excellent understanding of our hopes and desires for ‘Cobweb Cottage’ and in no time at all our initial discussions were translated into suitably sympathetic drawings for a planning application. Managing our expectations and keeping us constantly informed of the process, we are now armed with a planning approval notice and we are on our way towards the home of our dreams.”

David Lee

“I have dealt with Nick Joyce Architects for over 10 years and have no hesitation in recommending them to others. Nick has an exceptional knowledge of historic buildings and has guided me carefully through the planning processes and negotiations with English Heritage. I have always found the practice easy to deal with and have received a prompt, friendly and competent service.”

Rosemary Kirby, The Noak, Hop Kilns

“What made a real difference to the Hop Kiln being such a successful project and finished functional and attractive building was the depth of experience which we could draw on at every stage of the process from the recommendation of structural engineers which enabled us to work in harmony with the structure of the building right down to the style of pointing. I had definite views on design and purpose and Alex helped to turn them into reality, I therefore had complete faith in her and we achieved exactly what we wished for in the building. There were no problems with snagging or other issues of design or functionality, the building works perfectly and looks wonderful. The team at Nick Joyce were a pleasure to work with and I remain friends and look forward to the next project.”

Sarah Thomas, The Malthouse

“I found Nick Joyce Architects and in particular Mrs Andrea Burton to be very professional when designing and supervising the refurbishment of my thatched cottage. The experience was made easier by the clarity of procedure and guidance given at each stage of the two year project. I am very happy with the end result and would recommend this company of architects to any enquirer.”

Stuart Croft, Leylands Farm

“Alan Simcox was involved and committed from before the beginning, he came to the house before we bought it and helped us to develop our vision of what we could achieve through restoring our Georgian farmhouse. He offered advice and insight during the design, having a real feel for a period property; he negotiated happily and successfully with the conservation team; and managed the project in a responsive way, having regard for the need to balance the books. We are delighted with the outcome and feel we’ve brought the building back to life with Alan’s help.”

Fiona Charney, Britannia Square

“I have used Nick Joyce Architects for three of my homes and the coach house conversion into an office, over the last 20 years. In each case the house was grade 2 listed and in need of extensive and sensitive restoration and upgrading to meet the needs of life after 1830! Nick and his partners have always been knowledgeable, full of good ideas and sensitive to my requirements. On each occasion we project managed the building work but Nick has always but able to suggest contractors and suppliers used to working with old buildings. The final result each time has been great, and the house we live in now which was far the most ambitious project , is a pleasure to live in! A great service!”

Fiona Morris, Thornbank

“The design that was presented post our initial brief was imaginative, yet exactly what we needed. Andrea was extremely adaptable and responded quickly to any changes or challenges that arose, ensuring that, at all times, throughout this complex project the process was a positive experience for both ourselves and the builder.”

Steve Peet, Wyche Cutting

“We are delighted with our new home, imaginatively designed by Andrea Burton at Nick Joyce Architects. It was a difficult and prominent site, but thanks to the architect the planning process went very smoothly. The design incorporates traditional, local materials in a modern way, as well as giving us almost panoramic views of the Malvern Hills.”

David Bridge, Cheltenham and Ross-on-Wye

“Alan Simcox has dealt with a couple of Grade II listed retail properties for us. Alan clearly has a wealth of experience and understanding of such property which was invaluable when dealing with the planning process and when work commenced on site. Alan was professional and efficient throughout.”

Paul Linfield, Starcrest UK Ltd

“We approached Alan Simcox of Nick Joyce Architects to look at alternative proposals for a Grade 2 Listed City Centre Hotel in Gloucester that the company owned and where the tenant had gone in to Administration. Planning consent was negotiated for change of use and partial redevelopment, but in the event a new hotel operator came forward to take a lease of the existing building subject to external refurbishment and overhaul to include a new frontage and internal layout at street level.

“Following further negotiations with the planning authority to amend the consented scheme, Nick Joyce Architects prepared the tender documentation, oversaw the construction and refurbishment works as Project Manager, and the building is successfully trading as a 3 star hotel. We found Alan easy to work with, conscientious, professional and very thorough in seeing through the works on time and on budget.”
